About me

My Approach

Hi! I’m Emily and I enjoy capturing life's special moments. Whether it's a wedding or christening, baby or family portrait; I like to think I specialise in getting to know people and taking pictures of them how they see themselves.

I live in Walthamstow with my husband and two children. They are brilliant and exhausting and on the rare occasion they are sitting still and not whinging, I love taking photos of them too!

I worked for over nine years in video production as a camera operator and editor. I loved my job as it allowed me to be creative and meet interesting people. It was while freelancing that I bought my first proper (DSLR) camera. I used to take it everywhere with me; friends birthdays, weddings and kids parties. I soon realised that taking beautiful pictures of people made them happy and that made me happy.

A few expensive lenses and several photography courses later I was charging for my work. After my first child was born I wanted to find a career that could offer more predictability than freelancing. My experience of our amazing health care system through pregnancy and birth inspired me to set off on a whole new career path. I decided I wanted to re-train as a paediatric nurse. In the last few years I have become a mum of two and a nurse. But my love of photography has always been there.

I feel really privileged to get to work with some amazing kids in both my jobs. As a trained paediatric nurse I understand children and I believe that shows in my work. I am  passionate about safe, meaningful, newborn and child photography which is why I my shoots are always family led, fun and relaxed.

Traditional newborn photography is an art form I have a lot of respect for but it’s not really me. I truly believe that newborns are beautiful just the way they are. For me the props, the posing etc isn’t necessary when taking beautiful pictures of newborns and their families. My newborn and lifestyle shoots take place at your home. The place where you and your family feel most relaxed.  My approach is gentle, natural and baby led!

The shoot

There really isn't much prep involved for you although it's a good idea to have a think about what to wear (neutral colours are best!).  People ask me if they need to tidy up. The answer is - only if you can be bothered! I'm guessing you have enough on your plate right now. When I arrive I will spend a bit of time choosing the best area in terms of light and space which may involve moving a few things around. My real time is spent getting to know the family!

My approach

Even lifestyle and natural photography involves some posing! It is a myth that lifestyle photography happens naturally. But don't be put off. Mostly it's about getting you in to the right position - not holding jaw spasming fake grins for hours. As for babies there's sometimes a little bit of safe natural posing but ultimately your baby is in charge!

Emily isn't just a really good photographer she is also a pleasure to work with and has a rare and special talent for capturing the magic of the moment.

Not only is Emily super professional and great at what she does, she is wonderfully gentle and calm with your precious bundle.
