What to Expect from Your Family Lifestyle Session

My style is natural, relaxed and family-led, which means that I will come to your home or meet in an outdoor location that is meaningful to you and capture your family as it truly looks. Below, I’ve outlined helpful information for your upcoming session with me.

Day of the Session: Please allow up to 1.5 hours for the session. If it’s an indoor session I will walk around and look for the best lit areas in your house for family and sibling shots. I often use the sofa or master bedroom for photos. Don’t worry, I know what it’s like to have small children. Please don’t feel like you have to clean the house before I arrive. We can easily clean up an area that we want to use for photos while I’m there.

If the session is outdoors please check the weather and wear appropriate clothing.

If you have a newborn: Your newborn is perfect just the way they are. I don't try and make babies sleep or place them in unnatural poses. I suggest you have your newborn in a simple plain onesie. I will likely take it off and get some nude or near-nude newborn photos as well. I recommend feeding the baby as much as he or she wants about 15 minutes prior to my arrival. I do not do major posing or have any expectation of how the baby should behave (alert or asleep).

Older children: I have two children of my own and I know exactly how hard it can be to get them to do anything you want them to. I usually try and get group family photos right at the start because the older child may lose interest quickly. I have no major expectations of them and will never force them into doing anything they aren't comfortable with. It is best to prepare the child for the session by telling them that a friend is coming to take some photos of your family. A couple of edible bribes can be useful too!

Parents: I know that having small children is hard and wonderful all at the same time. My job is not to make this time in your life look perfect; my job is to show you just how beautiful it is, just as it is. I want you to be relaxed and at ease while I am photographing your family. You don't need to be anything but yourself.

Wardrobe: I recommend neutral or coordinating colours and comfort. Please visit my PINTEREST board for some ideas on what to wear.

Feel free to email with any questions you might have. Thank you, and I look forward to meeting you soon!
